A special edition of Sid Meier’s Civilization V is to go on sale, packed with figurines based on units from the game a 2 CDs featuring music from the soundtrack.
The special edition, which is released alongside a standard retail version on September 24th, also includes a ‘Behind the Scenes at Firaxis on Civilization V’ DVD and 176 page hardcover art book.
The latest version of Meier’s iconic franchise introduces hexagon map tiles which developers say allow for deeper strategy “and stunning organic landscapes”.
We’re told the new game engine “brings players closer to the Civ experience than ever” with fully animated leaders interacting with players from a screen-filling diplomatic scene and speaking in their native language for the first time.
In-game combat has also had an overhaul with armies dominating the landscape and new abilities such as ranged bombardment allows players – allowing players to fire weapons from behind the front lines – being added.
Announcing development of the title in February, Meier said: “From fully animated leaders and realistic landscapes, new combat tactics, expanded diplomacy and shared mods, we’re excited for players to see the new vision our team at Firaxis has brought to the series.”
