Filming has started on this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special with the BBC confirming that Katherine Jenkins and Michael Gambon will join series stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill for the festive adventure.
Jenkins, who will be making her acting debut (Emmerdale cameo excepted) in the Christmas story, said she was “over the moon to be involved in the Doctor Who Christmas Special.”
The critically acclaimed singer added: “I can’t quite believe it as it’s a part of the family tradition at the Jenkins household. I heard the news that I got the role on my 30th birthday and it was the best birthday present ever!”
BBC Drama controller Ben Stephenson said the special would be “Doctor Who’s clever twist on the much loved A Christmas Carol” and promised it would “will thrill BBC One viewers.”
