Disney announces Star Wars VII title and end of filming

star_wars_7_titleDisney has announced that the first instalment of the new Star Wars trilogy will be called Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The studio also confirmed that principal photography on the film which gets a worldwide cinema release on December 18, 2015, is now complete.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, The Force Awakens sees original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker return alongside new cast members and characters.

In addition to the sequel trilogy, Disney has previously confirmed it’ll make a series of standalone Star Wars films written by Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan who worked on the scripts of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the second and third instalments of the original Star Wars trilogy.
