News of rising ebook sales continues with the revelation that the format now accounts for 5% of Hachette UK’s trade sales and has quadrupled in the first quarter of 2011.
Hachette’s figures follow news that Penguin’s digital sales doubled in 2011 and data from the Publishers Association which suggests the value of ebook and audiobook sales in the UK have grew by over 300% in 2010.
The ongoing news of growing sales confirms that the ebook format is finally ‘going mainstream’. Rising sales in the UK coincide with the arrival of Amazon’s Kindle and Apple’s iPad.
