Actress and comedienne Elaine C Smith has joined the cast of Two Doors Down, Simon Carlyle’s hit Scottish comedy which aired on News Year’s Eve 2013.

A full run was announced this February and filming is underway on the six-part series which will air early next year.

Starring Doon Mackichan as Cathy, the host of a chaotic family Hogmanay party, the original one-off episode was warmly greeted by reviewers.

Smith, known for her role as Rab C Nesbitt’s long-suffering wife in the classic sitcom, is one of three newcomers joining core returning cast members Arabella Weir, Alex Norton, Doon Mackichan, Jonathan Watson and Sharon Rooney.

Also joining the cast is Jamie Quinn as Cathy’s son Ian, a role previously played by Kevin Guthrie, and Harki Bhambra as Ian’s new boyfriend Jaz.

Carlyle is teaming up with co-writer Gregor Sharp for the episodes which will explore the best and worst of family life.

Steven Canny, Executive Producer, says: “We’re delighted Elaine, Jamie and Harki are joining us for this series. The ups and downs of the residents of Latimer Crescent will be brought brilliantly to life by this fantastic ensemble in these terrific scripts.”
