With the 2018 Grand National coming up, punters the world over are getting ready to travel down to the track and stick a few quid on their likely banker. But if you’re not going for the betting or the drinking but so you can dress up nice and make a bit of a splash, then Ladies Day is the one for you!
The history of why the last day of the event is called Ladies Day is believed to date back to Queen Anne who found the races at Ascot on a similar principal. According to the Ascot website “Whilst out riding near Windsor Castle she came upon an area of open heath that looked, in her words, ‘ideal for horses to gallop at full stretch’”.
This tradition has extended to other festivals and the Grand National’s makes a delightful example of the sense of style of the women of Aintree. So, Ladies day is a proud tradition from the birth of the days of horse racing, but do you know what seems to be lacking? Proper Emoji support!
There are plenty of holes in everyone’s emoji keyboard and this is one event that definitely deserves some custom icons. Here are some we think are needed!
