Sky customers are to miss out on three special channels showing Eurosport’s “comprehensive” coverage of the Winter Olympics.
The pan-European broadcaster, which is sharing UK coverage of the games with the BBC, has launched three ‘pop-up’ channels to bring viewers all of the action from Pyeongchang.
It’s promising to bring “every minute, every athlete and every sport for fans to watch across multiple screens and devices,” including on their TV via the new channels which will be available in HD and provide 24/7 live and recorded coverage, plus expert analysis and daily highlights.
The channels will be available to BT TV, Virgin Media & Virgin Media Ireland customers and many sports fans had expected the new Eurosport 3, 4 and 5 channels to also be added to Sky, the UK’s largest pay-TV provider.
However it’s now been confirmed that this will not be the case.
The satellite firm’s customers will however be able to enjoy the coverage provided on Eurosport 1 and 2, with additional coverage available through the Eurosport on demand service on their Sky Q and Sky HD boxes.
In addition to the carriage deals with Virgin Media and BT, Eurosport is making its full coverage available via its Eurosport Player streaming service, and the Eurosport app.
James Gibbons, UK General Manager at Discovery Networks, said: “We’ve invested in launching three pop-up channels to bring fans closer to all the Olympic Games action than ever before, with the most comprehensive coverage and expert insights from PyeongChang 2018.
“It is all part of Discovery’s commitment to bring the Olympic Winter Games to more people, on more screens.
“An unprecedented five TV channels, together with Eurosport Player will show every minute of the Games, helping us to redefine the Olympic Games viewing experience for superfans.”
