Film4 launches movie download service

Film4oD, Film4’s online film-on-demand service, has launched a download rental service allowing users to watch films offline for the very first time.

The service, powered by FilmFlex, will offer films priced between £0.99 to £3.99.

Rentals are can be watched unlimited times for up to 48 hours following the first play and are available to first watch for up to 30 days.

All movies are protected by digital rights management (DRM) technologies and the service is geo-blocked to the UK.

Film4oD, available at www.film4od.com, was launched in November 2010 and has more than 50,000 registered users.

Film4 Channel Manager, Julia Wrigley, said: “Video on demand continues to soar in popularity with viewers enjoying the freedom to watch their preferred content on their own terms. We’re excited to offer ‘download to rent’, further strengthening the viewer experience alongside the Film4oD online streaming and Film4 channel.”
