Digital TV platform Freeview is hoping a “summer of subscription-free sport” will drive take-up of Freeview HD set-top-boxes which can offer up to 500 hours of HD storage.
The terrestrial digital platform has launched a new campaign to highlight the subscription-free availability of major sporting events including Wimbledon, The British Grand Prix, The British Open, The World Athletics Championships, The Tour de France, The Super Cup and the Rugby World Cup.
With Freeview HD boxes starting from £50 (£150 for a Freeview+ HD recorder), the platform is hoping lure even more homes away from pay-TV.
