Exclusive to the Nintendo DS, Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars is a return to the top down style of the original two entries in the series.
After a run of lightening fast 3D chapters in the GTA canon I was initially sceptical that the more simplistic style of Chinatown Wars could hold more than short-term novelty appeal. I was wrong. Despite the big shift backwards in graphics and the return of the bird’s eye camera view, this game instantly feels like GTA.
Despite the more cartoon nature of the graphics, the level of detail is impressive as is the sound quality although the radio ads and voiceovers of the full size console versions is sorely missed.
This game is great fun and really pushes the DS to great effect, probably the most ambitious game the platform has ever seen and welcome change from those endless brain games!
