Greatest On-Screen Sheriffs

The definition of a sheriff is “a government official with varying duties, existing in some countries with historical ties to England, where the office originated.”

We take a look at some of the best Sherriffs featured across the big (and small) screen. From Zombie Hunters, to hardened Criminals, and even those featured on slot machines, this list has them all!

Rick Grimes – The Walking Dead

Rarely seen without a hand cannon the size of a human arm, Rick Grimes is a community leader from AMC’s The Walking Dead.

After waking up in hospital at the start of a zombie apocalypse, Rick begins the hunt to find his family and friends, and figure out what happened. He’s played by British actor Andrew Lincoln, known for his roles in Love Actually and Wuthering Heights.

Lucas Hood – Banshee

Lucas Hood is the brand new sheriff of the town Banshee, in the namesake series. Unfortunately, the real Lucas Hood is killed when he intervenes in a bar fight, leaving an anonymous man to steal his identity and pretend to be the towns new sheriff.

The series is known for its gritty edge and graphic violence, definitely not one for the kids!

Jody Mills – Supernatural

Balancing the line between officer and maternal figure, Jody Mills is an ally of Sam & Dean Winchester and Sherriff of Sioux Falls, a little town in South Dakota. She’s portrayed by actress Kim Rhodes, who was announced to star in the Supernatural spin off “Wayward Sisters” which follows Jody Mills as the central character.

Harry S Truman – Twin Peaks

In the original series, not the 2017 version, Truman was the sheriff of the town of Twin Peaks, a position originally held by his Dad and his brother.

He was a part of the 1989 murder investigation of homecoming queen Laura Palmer, a central storyline in the show, as well as other investigations the agent led during his time in Twin Peaks. He was a close colleague of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, another central character in the show.

Woody – Toy Story

How could we include all these sheriffs without the coolest of all?! Voiced by Hollywood Legend Tom Hanks, Sherriff Woody appeared in Disney Pixar’s ground-breaking Toy Story released in 1995.

Woody belongs to Andy, and is his favourite toy, until Buzz Lightyear arrives, causing a huge rift between the toys. He also appear in the 3 sequels that followed, as well as the video game versions. The film made over 12 times it’s $30 million budget, grossing an incredible $373 million dollars!
