So it turned out that all those months of agonised waiting around were not in vain – Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May’s new show was every bit as grand as the title promised.
Pumped up by their return, especially the slightly trolling opening sequence, many of you wanted to celebrate the moment by treating yourselves to an early Christmas present of a Grand Tour t-shirt, or a 2017 calendar, or a keyfob, or maybe even a lavish, full colour ‘making of’ book stuffed full of witty anecdotes.
And yet, disappointingly, the virtual shelves of the world’s largest online retailer are currently stubbornly empty – there is no Grand Tour merchandise. What’s going on?
We happen to know a guy at a PR firm who knows someone at Amazon who might just know when or if the shopping giant will be helping the new show’s growing army of fans part with their cash so we’ve fired of an email asking what’s going on.
As soon as we hear back, we’ll let you know what they say.
For what it’s worth, our hunch is it’s more likely a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.
Even allowing for the utter weirdness of 2016, it would be mind bogglingly absurd to sign thousands – if not tens of thousands – of Clarkson fans up to a free shipping service and then not have things to sell and ship to them…
The Grand Tour is available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video – including in 4K – for anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription or standalone monthly subscription to the Prime Video service.
