Magyar Telekom, Hungary’s “principal” mobile network, is now offering txtr’s beagle ebook reader to subscribers taking one of three Android smartphones on a two-year contract.
Customers who buy a Samsung Galaxy Young, Sony Xperia M, LG L7 II will receive the ereader plus two free ebooks as well as a preview of Jo Nesbo’s new thriller Police.
First unveiled in October 2012, the beagle is a 5” e-ink ebook reader designed to allow network operators to offer a low-cost incentive to join and remain with the network.
Unlike many ereaders, the beagle lacks WiFi access and relies on a companion app stored on the user’s Apple or Android smartphone to buy and add books.
The beagle is also available to buy online with a HUF 0 down-payment and 24 interest-free monthly instalments or at list price for HUF 17,928 (approx. €60.00) including a 10% web shop discount.
Previously only compatible with Android mobile devices (compatibility: Android 2.1 and up) the txtr beagle is now also compatible with iOS devices (compatibility: iOS 6 and 7).
Thomas Leliveld, CEO of txtr, says: “We are absolutely delighted to bring the txtr beagle to market in Hungary in partnership with Magyar Telekom. Together we are delivering all the necessary ingredients for a successful service by combining our unique device with the e-reading competence of txtr and the consumer marketing knowledge of Telekom.”
“With its comprehensive e-book service, Magyar Telekom has expanded further its innovative content and device portfolio. In addition to the prolific content offering of the txtr e-book store, state-of-the-art e-book readers are also available from now, serving consumer demand even beyond Telekom’s customer base,” said Róbert Pataki, Chief Business Development Officer of Magyar Telekom.
