Jessica Chastain Plays Bold in Poker Themed Movie Molly’s Game

September 27, 2017 - Staff@seenituk

“I’m Molly Bloom. Do you know about me?”

If you have seen the trailer of Molly’s Game, you must be eagerly waiting for the movie to hit the screens. And if you haven’t, well, where have you been living? Suspense, thrill, sassiness; the trailer truly identifies with Jessica Chastain throughout the three minutes it runs. The drama is directed by Aaron Sorkin and is already one of the front-runners for the upcoming Academy Awards. It would be interesting to see if Aaron, who has already won two Oscars for best writing, would be able to take home another win with his directorial debut.

The movie is based on the life of Molly Bloom, an Olympic skier, who is disappointed and frustrated with her life. In such a situation many of us would down a few glasses of wine and maybe play some casino games online but not Molly Bloom she decided that casual gambling in a casino would not ease the pain and instead she decides to run an underground poker empire. Chastain seems to have done complete justice to the character of Molly Bloom (well it’s nothing new really) and we can’t seem to shake off the energy she has infused in the movie. The Golden Globe Award-winning actor has given a power packed performance in this adaptation of a book by Molly Bloom herself.

Apart from Chastain, who takes the reigns in the story, the movie is studded with many other acclaimed actors like Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera and Brian d’Arcy James. It is made known that Chastain put in a lot of efforts to understand the character and deliver a fantastic and believable role on the screen. She not only read a lot about Ms. Bloom, but she also met with her to discuss the entire episode in order to see beyond the publicized image and hyper-inflated stories surrounding her life. This dedication is clearly visible in the trailer and will definitely take viewers on a ride along the journey of Molly’s life, exactly how it happened.

The script is fabulously written, with each dialogue perfectly delivering a punch to the audience. This comes as no surprise as Aaron Sorkin is one of the highly acclaimed screenplay writers in Hollywood at present. He has even proven his mettle in the Academy Awards with “The Social Network” and the unforgettable “Moneyball”.

While there is no doubt that Sorkin is a fantastic writer, many film critics fear that him donning the director’s hat might not be a smart idea. His expertise behind the camera is yet to be seen, as we are about to witness if he as good with actors as he is with characters. But one thing that is certain is that with a cast like this, it is very unlikely that the movie will not be able to perform at the box office.

After having a super win streak with many sci-fi movies in the past, Jessica’s portrayal of a disgruntled woman who sets up a large poker empire is not only refreshing, but also highly anticipated. She is one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood and drop-dead gorgeous. Maybe Molly’s Game turns out to be the movie that finally gets her the much-awaited Academy Award.
