Amazon.com has announced that the 3G version of its Kindle ebook reader is now available in an ad-supported version priced $164.
Last month the retailer announced the release of a WiFi Kindle at a reduced price, subsidised by the inclusion of adverts and special offers.
The device is technologically the same as the standard, ad-free Kindle although it features an additional menu option to allow owners to view a full list of current special offers.
“It’s been just six weeks since we introduced the new $114 Kindle with Special Offers, and already customers have made it the bestselling member of the Kindle family,” said Jay Marine, Director, Amazon Kindle.
“In response to customer requests, we’re now making these money-saving special offers available for Kindle 3G.”
The Kindle with added adverts is not yet available in the UK.
