Canadian based ebook retailer Kobo has announced a new touchscreen version of its ebook reader which is capable of holding up to 1,000 eBooks.
Kobo is best known in the UK for its range of ebook apps including for Apple’s iPad however it also sells an ereader though selected retailers.Books purchased from the retailer can be read both on the reader and with the apps.
The new Kobo eReader Touch Edition uses the same Pearl eInk technology as used by Amazon’s Kindle. Unlike the Kindle it uses a virtual keyboard, devoting the entire front surface of the reader to the screen.
Kobo say the new reader weighs in at 200 grams and optional SD cards bring the total number of books it can up to 30,000.
The reader also includes Kobo’s social networking based ‘awards’ application Reading Life which debuted on its iPad app.
The Kobo eReader Touch Edition will be available in multiple languages: English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian and customers will be able to use a localised store with content in their own language.
The reader will be available in four colours – Lilac/white front, Blue/white front, Silver/white front or Black/Black front.
