eBook retailer Kobo marked the first day of the London Book Fair with the launch of a new HD aimed at the “passionate booklover”.
The limited edition 6.8” Kobo Aura boasts a custom front-lit e-ink screen which delivers 265 dpi and a 1440 x 1080 resolution which the company says offers the closest paper-like experience of any device on the market.
The Aura also features 4GB of internal storage, built-in WiFi for instant access to Kobo’s ebook store and 10 fonts with 24 sizes.
There’s also support for library ebooks protected with Adobe DRM and Kobo’s Reading Life stats and social networking tool.
The Aura was unveiled at an exclusive event hosted at London’s Altitude 360.
Kobo CEO Michael Serbinis said it was developed following extensive feedback from some of the company’s most “passionate” readers who use their current ereaders every day.
Addressing the audience of journalists and industry figures, Mr Serbinis said: “From the beginning, Kobo has pushed the eReading industry to new heights and today is no exception.
“Kobo Aura HD is designed for the most passionate booklovers – those who devour hundreds of stories each year – who asked us to create the ultimate eReading experience. Kobo Aura HD is our way of celebrating these customers.”
The device will be available for pre-order from April 16th via Kobo.com and will be in stores at the end of the month with a retail price of £139.99.
