News of Arndt’s follows Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm last month.
Star Wars Executive Producer Kathleen Kennedy and creator George Lucas have begun story conferences with Arndt.
Arndt won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Little Miss Sunshine and was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for Toy Story 3.
The new film will be released in 2015.
