Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed that that principal photography on Star Wars: Episode VII will commence May 2014 at London’s Pinewood Studios.
The film, directed by J.J. Abrams, is the first of a brand-new trilogy and will be written by Michael Arndt.
Disney acquired Lucasfilm from Star Wars creator George Lucas in October 2012 and has since announced both the new trilogy and a separate series of stand-alone Star Wars films.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Lucasfilm confirmed Episode VII would be set “about 30 years” after Return of the Jedi.
It’s been widely speculated that original trilogy stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will reprise their roles of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.
Although no casting or plot details have been revealed, the statement says Episode VII “will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces.”
Star Wars: Episode VII will be released on December 18, 2015.
