Netflix starts production on new Marco Polo adventure series

netflix_logoProduction has started on a new Netflix original series based on the epic adventures of Marco Polo.

The ten-part Marco Polo is being produced by The Weinstein Company and will be filmed in Italy, Kazakhstan and at the new Pinewood Studios in Malaysia for a late 2014 release.

The explorer’s journey takes him to the centre of a brutal war in 13th century China, a world replete with exotic martial arts, political skullduggery, spectacular battles and sexual intrigue.

Lorenzo Richelmy stars in the title role alongside Benedict Wong, Zhu Zhu, Tom Wu, Remy Hii and Rick Yune.

The show will be executive produced by Harvey Weinstein and series creator John Fusco alongside Dan Minahan who’ll also direct two episodes.

“Television audiences today are more discerning than ever before both in terms of character and the scope of the worlds those characters live in. We are proud to present a series that rivals some of the most successful films we’ve ever made,” said Weinstein.
