New Mac OS X update brings iBooks to desktops and laptops

ibooks_macosxApple has finally added support for iBooks to Mac OS X, the operating system for its desktop and laptop models.

Until now the firm’s proprietary ebook store and reader software was only available on its iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch mobile devices.

However the Mavericks edition of Mac OS X includes a dedicated iBooks app which supports ePub files, rich media titles created in Apple’s iBooks Author and more conventional PDF documents.

The addition of iBooks to desktop and laptop Macs helps Apple close the gap with rivals such as Kobo and Amazon’s Kindle which have long offered ebook reading software for computers.
