One to watch – Mrs Biggs

August 29, 2012 - Staff@seenituk

Next week sees the debut of ITV’s Mrs Biggs, a new 5-part drama which takes a unique look at the Great Train Robbery.

Written by Jeff Pope who produced Appropriate Adult and See No Evil: The Moors Murders, the series focuses on Charmian Biggs (Sheridan Smith) – wife of Ronnie (Danny Mays) – and the impact the robbery had on her life and family.

We were treated to an advance screening of the first episode as well as a sneak look at the rest of the series and came away very impressed, especially with Smith who convincingly ages and grows Charmian as the years and story progress.

The real-life Charmian Biggs spoke extensively to Pope during his research and allowed the key cast access to her personal letters to help them prepare for the roles. The result is a drama which feels honest and true and which we think deserves a clutch of awards.

Be sure to set your PVRs.

ITV 1 and ITV 1 HD, Wednesday, 5 September 2012, 9:00PM
