Gaming giant Sony says global sales of its PlayStation 4 console have now exceeded 6m.
The update comes just weeks after the company announced sales of 5.3 million and suggests the console is enjoying a healthy lead over its rival, Microsoft’s Xbox One.
After months of lower than hoped-for sales, Microsoft last week announced its console would get a price cut in the UK, narrowing the £80 gap between it and the pS4.
Sony’s sales update came in a blog posting which cited the “successful launch in Japan just over a week ago” as a factor in the PS4’s ongoing popularity.
The company is struggling to keep up with demand, and in the UK the console continues to be out of stock at key retailers who are having to take pre-orders for new stock.
