Michael Portillo is retuning to BBC Two with a brand-new series exploring rail travel in the US.
Following on from the former cabinet minister’s Great Continental and Great British Railway Journeys, the fifteen-part Great American Railway Journeys will see Portillo retrace nineteenth century railway journeys across the United States.
Portillo said: “Now that Bradshaw’s guides have shown us much of the United Kingdom and swathes of the European continent, I feel excited to be heading for the United States, epic railroad country.
“But with no Bradshaw’s to steer us there, we will all have to get used to a new mentor…”
Executive Producer John Comerford commented: “We are delighted to be embarking on a new series of journeys with Michael Portillo across a different continent.
“The age of the railways was a hugely rich period in America’s history and Michael is a unique talent to guide us through it.”
