Retail woe for Toshiba’s Folio 100 tablet

Technology retailers Currys, Dixons and PC World have reportedly stopped selling Toshiba’s Folio 100 Android tablet after “higher than expected” numbers of the would-be iPad rivals were returned by unhappy customers.

Shoppers are reported to have returned the 10″ tablet after discovering it did not include access to the Android Marketplace, limiting users to those apps Toshiba were able to make available.

Pricing for the Folio started at £329 – £100 lower then the entry-level iPad but shoppers were apparently unwilling to settle for less than perfection in return for the lower retail price.

In a statement Toshiba said: “Toshiba UK is aware of reports regarding customer returns of the Folio 100, and is currently working with Dixons Retail to provide a solution.

“An update on availability will be provided in due course.”
