DI Sam Tyler (John Simm) encounters his future boss and a less pleasant side of life in 1973 when Life on Mars returns later this month.
Chief Inspector Glenn Fletcher is Sam’s mentor and inspiration in 1997 but in 1973 he’s a young, fresh-faced, new recruit dealing with the racist attitudes of his new colleagues.
As the first black DC in Manchester’s precinct he faces an inordinate amount of mickey-taking, criticism and bigotry – not least from Ray and most of his other colleagues.
Appalled at the treatment of his future mentor Sam tries to inspire Fletcher to believe more in himself and not stand for Ray’s cheap humour.
To tie in with this second and final series the original soundtrack to Life On Mars will be released by Sony BMG on Monday 19 February 2007.
