Sean Bean to host Battle of Waterloo anniversary documentary

Sean_beanSharpe and Game of Thrones star Sean Bean is to present a special two-hour documentary investigating the Battle of Waterloo.

The special will air on HISTORY in June 2015 to mark the 200th anniversary of the battle and is being produced by Wavelength Films for HISTORY and A+E Networks.

Sharpe, the TV series based on Bernard Cornwell’s novels, saw Bean play Richard Sharpe, a British soldier involved in the Napoleonic wars. The covered the periods from 1809 to 1818, with the Battle of Waterloo series (Sharpe’s Waterloo) premiering in the UK in 1997.

Working with a team of present‐day soldiers, ex-soldiers and military experts, Bean will tackle hands-on challenges to piece together the true story of Waterloo.

Together, they will also test the weapons and tactics that shaped the outcome of the battle and compare them with strategies employed in modern warfare.

Bean said: “I am excited to be following in the footsteps of Sharpe and those who fought in the Battle of Waterloo, to tell the story of this iconic battle, on HISTORY.”

Rachel Job, Director of Programming at A+E Networks® UK, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Sean Bean on this exciting project and when Wavelength films brought us the idea with Sean attached we just couldn’t refuse!”

Patrick McGrady MD of Wavelength Films, added: “We are excited to be embarking on a partnership with HISTORY to tell the story of Waterloo. His interest in this period makes Sean Bean the perfect choice to present this special programme and we are looking forward to working with him on this fascinating project.”
