Sky One has confirmed the air date for the third series of its hit action series Strike Back, based on the book by Chris Ryan.
The first series, starring Richard Armitage as a special forces solider carrying out ‘black ops’, aired to rave reviews.
The second series saw Armitage’s character killed off by terrorists and the arrival of Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton as special-ops vets Stonebridge and Scott
The new ten-part series debuts on 2 September at 9pm and was filmed in South Africa earlier this year.
This season’s story begins after militants loyal to notorious Somali warlord Huseyin Waabri attack a routine embassy escort, a British diplomat and junior attaché are kidnapped and Scott (Stapleton) is sent into Mogadishu solo to retrieve them.
Back in the UK Stonebridge (Winchester) struggles to adjust to his new career outside of SECTION 20.
Speaking earlier this year Anne Mensah, Sky’s Head of Drama, said the broadcaster wanted the show “to be the most high-octane, action packed drama on British Television.”
The show is a co-production between Sky and CINEMAX/HBO and is produced by Left Bank Pictures.
Strike Back series 1 and 2 are available on DVD and Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk
