Sky Atlantic says it will broadcast Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom from Tuesday 10th July.
Jeff Daniels stars as a cable show news anchor, who, together with his staff sets out to put on a news show “in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements.”
The ten part series was created by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing) and also stars former Skins actor Dev Patel, Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn, Thomas Sadoski and Sam Waterston.
The News Night team is led by anchor and managing editor Will McAvoy (Daniels) and his new executive producer MacKenzie McHale (Mortimer).
Then there’s their staff: senior producer Jim Harper (Gallagher, Jr.), associate producer Margaret Jordan (Pill), researcher Neal Sampat (Patel) and financial analyst Sloan Sabbith (Munn).
Also making frequent appearances in the offices are News Night’s former executive producer Don Keefer (Sadoski), and President of the news division, Charlie (Waterston).
Jane Fonda joins the show in later episodes as Leona Lansing, CEO of the cable network’s parent company.
