Sky Mobile’s launch nears after successful trials

Sky’s upcoming mobile phone service has successfully completed a number of “final readiness milestones,” paving the way for a launch later this year.

Announced in reaction to BT’s decision to buy EE, Sky Mobile will be piggy back on the O2 network and allow Sky to offer customers ‘quad play’ bundles of fixed, mobile, broadband and pay-TV.

The firm’s internal testing has seen the first live calls made and SMS and data traffic tested. In addition, it has successfully provisioned its own SIMs and concluded roaming agreements with international partners.

CEO Jeremy Darroch said Sky Mobile would “add another major product offering to our UK line up and will give our customers the opportunity to take even more from a brand known for great customer service and quality products.”
