Sony announces themed eBook readers

Sony has recently launched two themed versions of its new 5″ Pocket Edition eBook reader, each featuring bundled content.

The Mills & Boon Reader includes three Christmas-themed novels exclusive to the model plus a voucher for ten further Mills & Boon eBook downloads. The reader, which is available from Sony Centres and www.sony.co.uk, also comes with a case embossed with the Mills & Boon rose logo.

Tim Cooper, director of direct and digital marketing at Mills & Boon, says of the partnership, “We’re delighted to be working with Sony and to be the first UK publisher to partner in this way. We’ve already had a fantastic response to Mills & Boon eBooks and I’m confident that the Mills & Boon Reader Pocket Edition will encourage many more to enjoy romantic fiction, and eBooks in general.”

James Patterson Reader Pocket Edition
Sony has also announced a special James Patterson tie-in version of the pocket reader which ships with the Alex Cross novel, ‘Cross Country,’ plus selected excerpts from two James Patterson books and a letter from the author.

In addition each customer who buys the bundle will be able to download ‘Worst Case’, a new James Patterson novel, exclusively from www.sony.co.uk from Christmas Day – a month before the hardback and eBook goes on general sale.

Patterson is the most borrowed author from UK libraries and earlier this year spearheaded a campaign in partnership with the National Literacy Trust to get children reading with their fathers.

The tie-in reader comes in midnight blue and the case features an embossed Alex Cross logo.

“Thriller novels have a huge fan base here in the UK, so we are delighted to be teaming up with James Patterson and Cornerstone to offer this limited edition Reader. We’ve done our best to offer true fans an amazing opportunity for exclusive books and content, and we hope this is the beginning of many collaborations,” said Omar Gurnah, category manager for Reader for Sony UK.

The reader is available from Waterstone’s, Sony Centres and www.sony.co.uk.
