Sony is bringing Google’s internet connected TV service to the UK, two years after the service launched in the US to dismal reviews.
The electronic giant’s new NSZ-GS7 Internet Player with Google TV, originally announced in January, will launch in the UK following a US launch net month.
Google TV is an internet television service (IPTV) similar to the Apple TV and Roku boxes.
The original generation of Google TV boxes were criticised for being “too complicated” and “a geek product” by widely respected All Things Digital reviewer Walt Mossberg.
“Entertainment content is available through so many channels and sites, and Google TV helps consumers easily find what they want to watch, listen to or play using familiar search engine technology, enhancing the viewer experience. TV will never be the same,” claimed Phil Molyneux, president and chief operating officer of Sony Electronics.
