The Addams Family make UK stage debut in Sutton

Addams_FamilyThe Addams Family will make their UK stage debut in an amateur production after rights holders Theatrical Rights Worldwide granted Sutton-based Mayhem Musical Theatre Company the chance to mount the production ahead of a professional tour in 2015.

The Broadway musical, based on Charles Addams’ famous characters, will play at the Secombe Theatre in Sutton from 12th till 15th March 2014.

The play finds Gomez Addams confronted with every father’s nightmare – the turmoil of teenage love as his only daughter Wednesday falls in love with a sweet, smart young man from a ‘normal’ family.

Gomez tries to keep this unsettling sensation from his wife Morticia and the rest of the family.

Everything will change for this illustrious family and their ancestors on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents…

Director Dan Phillips said: “It is an honour to be able to bring the institution that are the Addams Family characters to life in a musical that explores issues that affect us all such as being an outsider, falling in love, growing up and most importantly family with a wickedly funny script and fantastic songs.”

Choreographer Alice Bendall added: “From Charleston to Vaudeville and a kick line reminiscent of A Chorus Line – what an opportunity to incorporate so many different dance styles into one musical!”
