Any regular roulette player will likely have tried a number of different techniques and ploys to try and win big at the wheel. Those who take the game seriously will probably have mastered the roulette strategies that are widely used, and some will have better success than others. If you’re relatively new to roulette or are simply looking to adopt a strategy that works for you, there’s a number of prominent and commonly-used techniques that can help you get one over the casino.
Whether you play online at somewhere like Betfair’s live roulette, or prefer the old school method of heading down to your local casino, the strategies are widely used across both sectors and by players of all abilities. In essence, roulette is more about luck than skill but those who are serious about trying to win big or simply just be up for the night, will need to study the strategies that are tried and tested.
Martingale Strategy
The most commonly used system is the Martingale Strategy, which is ideal for any newbies or those who simply want to adopt a new method. In a nut shell, the Martingale Strategy works when players double their bets after they’ve taken a loss, but we will explain in more detail. A better way of looking at it is that if you bet on a single colour, continue to double you bet until you recoup your potential losses whilst landing a small profit in the process.
It’s best advised to start your betting small to increase the chance of picking up a profit overall, so something along the lines of: place your bet on either black or red, odd or even; or 1-18 or 19-36 and if it does in fact win, stick to the strategy and if and when you lose, start to double the bet etc.
Paroli Betting System
The Paroli betting system is similar to an extent to the Martingale, but is mainly regarded as a progressive form of betting. It’s becoming more commonly used on the roulette wheel owing to its simplicity and strong chance of winning. The idea is to land three consecutive wins in a row, but players must double their bet with each win accrued.
This example will help you visualise it in more detail. If you place a $2 bet on red/black and it loses, keep punting with the same amount until you win. Once that win does occur, you’ll start wagering with $4 and if that wins, you’ll stake $8 and so on and so forth. The premise of the Paroli system is that wins and losses tend to come in patterns or streaks, so players can really maximise their bets when enjoying a winning streak.
The James Bond Strategy
This is arguably one of the most famous roulette strategies available, but it does require you to have a rather sizeable bankroll, at least $200 to be exact. The strategy itself is a flat betting system which requires players to bet $140 on high numbers (19-36), $50 on numbers 13 through to 18 and then $10 on the zero.
Obviously, if numbers 1-12 come in, you will have lost but the profits you’ll generate if any of the other numbers come in will be worthwhile. If you win with numbers 19-36, $80 will be yours and you’ll win $100 if any number between 13 and 18 comes in, and a cool $160 if your insurance number of zero lands. This technique is best used for players with a potentially large bankroll and the winning amounts will vary, depending on how much you start with.
