TLA acquires Alan Brown’s Five Dances

Five_Dances_OneSheet_LogoTLA Releasing has acquired UK, US and French-speaking Europe rights for Alan Brown’s (Private Romeo) contemporary drama Five Dances.

The film tells the story of Chip (Broadway star Ryan Steele, in his first film role), an extraordinarily-talented 18-year-old who joins a small downtown modern dance company.

In his first weeks of rehearsal, Chip is initiated into the rites of passage of a New York dancer’s life, where discipline and endless hard work, camaraderie and competitiveness, the fear of not being good enough, and the joy of getting it just right, inform every minute of every day.

Brown and his long-time cinematographer Derek McKane capture the exhilaration and emotional turmoil of a dance company, and all of Chip’s poignant firsts with the result being the director’s most dynamic film to date.

Derek Curl, TLA Releasing President, who brokered the deal with Wide, said of the acquisition: “Fives Dances is a stunning and assured piece of filmmaking which we are thrilled to be bringing to theatres, DVD and VOD. Alan Brown has made an original, moving and modern film which we are sure will speak to our core audience and far beyond.”

Brown added: “I am pleased to be partnering once again with TLA Releasing. My new film is unique in its cross-genre appeal, and I know that TLA Releasing is as excited as I am about reaching new audiences, and exploring innovative release opportunities.”

TLA will release the film in selected theatres this spring with a DVD and VOD release to follow in Q3 2013.
