A new Top Gear DVD will use Aurasma’s augmented reality technology to offer fans additional content.
The tech, recently used by Universal’s 100th anniversary titles, uses a smartphone and tablet app to display video footage triggered by a known location or image.
BBC Worldwide says Top Gear The Challenges 6, on sale from June 4th – PRE-ORDER YOUR COPY, is the first in a planned series of AR releases.
The Top Gear title brings The Stig, completes with kung-fu moves, to life as well as a 3D aura of The Stig’s helmet that can then be shared with friends on social networking sites.
The Helmet will trigger additional on-screen icons from which users can sign up for more information on Top Gear, enter a draw to win an i-Pad and access special discounts on Top Gear merchandise BBC Worldwide’s online store.
Aurasma’s Martina King commented: “BBC Worldwide is one of the most innovative companies in the world. We are delighted they have chosen us to bring their DVDs to life in a whole new way that is sure to enthral Top Gear fans.”
Fiona Eastwood, Product Development Director at BBC Worldwide Consumer Products says: “Top Gear is one of our key brands so we’re always thinking about new ways in which we can enhance experiences for its fans.
“Offering exclusive content through smart phone enabled technology is a great way for users to engage with the brand away from the television set. We hope that fans of the show will revel in the exclusive content within this DVD package, share it and tell their friends about it.”
