Top Gear rentals come to Facebook

August 24, 2011 - Staff@seenituk

Facebook users can now rent episodes of Top Gear
Three of Top Gear’s “most iconic” specials will be available to rent from the show’s official Facebook page.

The first episode available to rent is the Polar Special, it will be joined on August 28th by US Road Trip and Vietnam Road Trip on September 4th.

The episodes are being made available by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, and will be available users in Europe, USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Earlier this month Worldwide also launched a Facebook rental scheme for Doctor Who episodes. Both shows are available to watch for 48 hours after being rented.

The show’s Facebook page has over 8.8 million fans while a fan page for The Stig has over 5 million fans.

Adam Waddell, Managing Director of Top Gear commented that “Top Gear has amassed a huge following on Facebook with almost 14 million friends following the brand itself and The Stig.

“We’re always looking at ways of adding value for the core fans of the show so it’s entirely appropriate that we should be one of the first TV shows to make its premium content available via Facebook.”
