Eighteen months after it wowed audiences at the 2011 BFI London Film Festival, US comedy Bernie is finally getting a UK-wide cinema release.
In the tiny, rural town of Carthage, TX, assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede (Jack Black) was one of the town’s most popular residents.
He taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Everyone loved and appreciated Bernie, so it came as no surprise when he befriended Marjorie Nugent (Shirley MacLaine), an affluent widow as well known for her sour attitude and healthy bank balance.
When the townspeople went months without seeing Marjorie, she was not missed and Bernie continued to handle her affairs.
So they were very shocked when it was finally reported that Marjorie Nugent had been dead for some time, and their beloved Bernie Tiede charged with her murder.
