txtr announces new €9 eReader

A new low-cost eBook reader designed for network operators to offer customers has been unveiled by ‘txtr, the German-based eBook retail platform.

The txtr beagle is a 5” e-ink reader which weighs 128 grams, is “mostly just 5mm thick” and is powered by standard AAA batteries which the firm says should last “more than” a year.

The device can be personalised with back-covers in four vivid fashionable colours.

The beagle communicates with txtr’s existing Android e-reading app, and can receive additional content and documents from the smartphone using Bluetooth.

Font-size and orientation are set on the smartphone in the app once.

Thomas Leliveld, Chief Commercial Officer at txtr says: “From discussions with network operators, we foresee the txtr beagle to be available to consumers for a price as low as €9.90. That is up to ten times cheaper than other eReaders in the market, which will certainly drive adoption and eBook sales.”
