UKTV’s catch-up and on-demand app has been “significantly updated” to offer TV fans an easier way to access their favourite shows from the broadcaster’s portfolio of genre themed free-to-air channels.
Available in the iOS and Android app stores, the new version of the app also boasts higher-quality programme images, new easy-to-view genre listings and an extended selection of quality Box Sets.
As well as providing catch-up content, the UKTV Play service has been used to premiere episodes of new and returning series.
UKTV operates a bundle free-to-air and subscription channels, including Gold, Dave, Drama, W and Alibi, and moved into the on-demand space in 2014.
In recent years the broadcaster has invested in a range of original and first run shows, including reviving sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf and bringing viewers top US dramas such as Secrets and Lies.
In addition to the smartphone and tablet app, UKTV Play is also available on Amazon Fire TV, on a range of set top boxes and via a desktop site which is credited with a 50% increase in views over the past 12 months.
UKTV’s Head of Digital Products, Oliver Davies, said, “The new, streamlined interface has been designed so viewers can find something great to watch in seconds.
“The uktvplay.co.uk desktop site update has been brilliantly received by our users, helping to drive a significant increase in views, so we’re delighted to be rolling it out onto our iOS and Android mobile apps.
“The new-look app has a premium feel that mirrors the quality of our content.”
