Virgin Media has promised a “major” forthcoming software update will bring expanded capabilities to its TiVo service.
Customers who have complained about HDMI wake-up issues and missing basic functions such as the Red Button have been eagerly anticipating the update.
Other basic features missing from the box, but available on the cable company’s previous generation V+HD box, include the ability to search music on demand content and programme reminders.
Virgin has repeatedly declined to provide a definite date for the software update’s release or full details of features and fixes it will contain. A statement issued by the company refers only to it being rolled out “in the coming months.”
However the company has announced an iPad app which will let TiVo users browse the EPG and on-demand content library before watching it on their TV.
Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media said: “In less than a year since launch we are already building new features to offer our customers more ways to enjoy their service with an unprecedented user experience, and maintaining our position at forefront of technological innovation in TV.
“The companion app and other forthcoming enhancements we are working on form part of our long term strategy to deliver the most dynamic and user friendly multi-screen entertainment experience in the U.K.”
