Virgin Media has reported growth of just 8,000 new TV customers in the first quarter of the year, a significant drop from the 39,000 additions in the same period last year.
The numbers, released in the firm’s latest trading update, will raise questions about its ability to match the 86,000 TV gains seen in the whole 2017 financial year.
While net gains have slowed, Virgin saw an increase in the number of customers using its new V6 set-top box, with total installs now exceeding 1.6 million subscribers – 41% of its UK TV base – up from one million subscribers (27%) in the final quarter of last year.
