YouView shareholders finalise five year funding agreement

July 22, 2014 - Martin Hoscik@seenituk

humax_youview-t2000YouView’s seven shareholders – BT, TalkTalk, the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Arqiva – have finalised their five year funding agreement.

The connected TV platform offers users more than 70 free-to-air TV and radio channels and on-demand video players including iPlayer and Sky Store plus the option to add over 100 internet delivered subscription channels from TalkTalk and BT.

In March the shareholders agreed an outline deal guaranteeing funding until at least 2019, allowing YouView to deliver a new wave of features and content partners.

A major recruitment drive is now underway to hire more than 50 designers, developers and test engineers to help deliver the updates.

CEO Richard Halton said, “I am delighted that all seven shareholders have committed to another five years, based on the core principles that have already made YouView such a success.

“Our plans for expansion will allow YouView to develop more consumer facing functionality, widening the gap with the rest of the market and allowing viewers to discover more of the content they love.”
