Zinio brings iTunes purchasing to updated iPad app

Zinio, the company which sells a virtual newsagents of digital magazines, has updated its iPad app with a host of new features.

The new 2.0 version of the app offers free articles from Zinio’s catalogue of 4.500 titles and also includes a radical overhaul of the user interface.

Also new is the arrival of bookmarks allowing readers to save their position within a magazine or bookmark articles for future reference.

Unlike a number of ebook retailers, Zinio has embraced Apple’s iTunes payment system, adding the ability for users to buy magazines using their iTunes account.

The app also allows users to buy advertised items from within magazines.

“Magazine readers expect and love high-quality, premium content – and Zinio’s 2.0 app for iPad goes far beyond today’s norm to deliver stories in a visually rich, immersive and interactive new way,” said Zinio president and CEO Rich Maggiotto.

“Our new Explore section is a first, and creates the ability to browse and enjoy content you might never even knew existed from trusted editors around the globe. We’ve focused on satisfying the curiosity of our passionate readers, and delivering stories that personally matter to them, across all areas of interest.”
