Amazon has revealed a new lineup of its popular Kindle ebook reader, and reduced the device’s cost.

The entry model 6-inch Kindle retains an e-ink screen and features a new design that is 30 percent lighter at just 5.98 ounces, 18 percent smaller, and turns pages 10 percent faster.

Here in the UK the new Kindle is priced £89 and is available to pre-order.

A new touch-capable Kindle has also been announced. The Kindle Touch is currently a US-only device and is available with and without 3G.

The company has also announced a new tablet device, the Kindle Fire, which is also only currently available to US customers.

“We are excited to introduce the all-new Kindle,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO.

“We kept everything readers love about Kindle—the electronic ink display that reads like real paper, with no glare, even in bright daylight, the convenience of downloading books in less than 60 seconds, and Kindle’s ability to disappear in your hands so you can get lost in the author’s words—and made it lighter, smaller, faster, and more affordable than ever.”
