Big Finish extends Doctor Who audio adventures licence

July 31, 2012 - Staff@seenituk

Doctor Who fans are guaranteed at least another three years of original audio adventures, producers Big Finish have announced.

The company has extended its licence with AudioGO, formerly BBC Audiobooks, and the BBC to produce stories based on the hit TV series until December 2015.

Starting with The Sirens of Time, Big Finish has been producing original dramas featuring surviving classic series Doctors Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann since 1999.

Earlier this year they added Fourth Doctor Tom Baker to their role call of Doctors.

The dramas are available on CD and MP3 and selected titles have been broadcast on BBC radio.

“I’m so excited that we can continue our voyages with the Doctor for at least another three years,” said Big Finish executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery, “and so pleased that AudioGO and the BBC continue to trust us with the telling of these stories.”

“It’s been a privilege and a pleasure for me to have worked on the Doctor Who audio range since 1999,” added executive producer Nicholas Briggs who also voices the Daleks in the current TV series.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the excellent relationship we have with AudioGO and the BBC – and, of course, to the many exciting adventures for the Doctor I’ll be working on over the next three years or more.”

Line producer David Richardson said the company was “already making plans for 2015 which will be the sixteenth year of Doctor Who audio productions from Big Finish and include our landmark 200th main range play.”
