Freeview and YouVIew users will see major changes to their programme guides later this month.
In July the organisation responsible for allocating channel numbers to broadcasters on Freeview say announced a number of changes including renumbering the HD, news and adult channels.
The changes were meant to be implemented in September.
However following objections by Sky News and an unnamed adult channel operator, a more limited change went ahead last month while appeals were heard.
DMOL has now concluded its appeals process and says the objectors have failed to make a “sufficiently compelling case that the moves should not go ahead.”
Accordingly the previously announced changes to the HD and adult channel numbers will go ahead on October 17, 2012.
From this date HD channels will start at 101 (currently 50); the Adult section will start at 171 (currently 91).
The children’s and news genres will move at a later date once the currently vacant channel 65 is allocated.
