DVD Review – Sanditon and Peaky Blinders Series 5

November 29, 2019 - Staff@seenituk

TV drama fans can re-live two of their favourite shows with these DVD boxsets from the BBC owned home entertainment label, 2Entertain:

Sanditon

This release includes all 8 episodes of ITV’s epic and stylishly produced adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sanditon plus around 10 minutes of extras.

Filmed in Bristol’s Bottle Yard Studios and on location in Bristol itself, the series looks gorgeous thanks to some excellent set and costume design and it’s a shame that a production of this quality is only getting a DVD release as it would no doubt have looked stunning on Blu-ray.

However the release does include three behind the scenes featurettes in which cast and crew, including screenwriter Andrew Davies, discuss how they turned Austen’s unfinished novel into a TV blockbuster.

While not especially in-depth, they do provide a nice glimpse into the production process and add welcome value to the release and help justify paying out to re-watch the series.

Peaky Blinders Series 5

Fans of Steven Knight’s acclaimed drama can re-live the show’s fifth series which is now available on DVD and, pleasingly for fans of watching top dramas in High Definition, on Blu-ray.

Rounding off all six episodes is a single five-minute behind the scenes extra which feels a little stingy, though there’s also two Shelby branded beer mats included in the box which make a nice treat and with Christmas on the horizon helps give the release a tangible ‘gift’ feel.
