So after all the rumour, questions and angst we know that iPads in the UK are going to get you back at last £429, with the 64GB 3G model coming in at a whopping £699.
The full price list is:
16GB, wifi only – £429 inc vat
32GB, wifi only – £499 inc vat
64GB, wifi only – £599 inc vat
16GB, wifi/3G – £529 inc vat
32GB, wifi/3G – £599 inc vat
64GB, wifi/3G – £699 inc vat
There’s no getting away that it’s a lot of cash, a full MacBook costs £816 – less than £120 more than the top 3G model.
I know 2 people who are now considering a netbook rather than an iPad now they’ve seen the final prices.
Meanwhile Orange has announced its prices for the 3G service with a ‘Pay monthly for what you use’ option of 5p per MB, an iPad Daily for £2 giving you 200MB, a weekly version offering 1GB for 7.50.
Those wanting a contract can opt for £15 and £25 tariffs offering 3GB and 10GB respectively with unlimited Wi-Fi included.
I have to say, the £2 daily option is appealing, it makes the use of something like a MiFi less necessary although £529 for the basic 3G model means I’ll be giving my need for an iPad some serious thought.
Apple say the device will be on sale in the UK from Friday, May 28th.
