There are few sights more rewarding than seeing a genuine, bonafide star embraced by their fans and on Friday night the Palladium hosted a great example of this when Joan Collins Unscripted came to London for a single night.

The show sees the actress and former Dynasty star, accompanied and assisted by husband Percy Gibson, answer unrehearsed questions from a live audience of fans.

Although the show is billed as ‘Unscripted’, there is a certain inevitable predictability about many of the questions which means Collins, while not knowing quite what’s coming at her, will often already have a handy anecdote or tale at her disposal.

While her answers are packed with enough warmth to ensure it never feels like she’s merely reeling off a line, variations of many answers will have found their way onto the chat shows and print overviews over the years.

Many, and this again illustrates how foreseeable some of the questions are, are also illustrated by photos and clips from Collins’ career and personal life, including private family photos which some may not have seen before.

For those more unusual enquires – on Friday night an audience member asked whether the actress thought the woman’s non-present partner of 2 years was ‘the one’ – she defaults to a sassy snark or, occasionally, put down.

There’s also a fair bit of full-on Alexis Colby-style savaging chucked in the direction of former co-stars, with George Peppard and Linda Evans coming in for some memorable flak during Friday’s show.

Fans lapped up the routine and Collins clearly relished two hours in front of an adoring audience who hung on her every word.

The limited run means tickets will be pretty scarce but fans close to Brighton and Canterbury where the show concludes its UK run this week might want to check for last minute cancellations.
